THREADS OF HERITAGE

El Kahhal family with over a century of heritage specializes in handmade rugs production and trading. Proudly still operating from the same factory and oldest existing retail store in Khan El Khalili since 1936. Following in the footsteps of the first Syrian merchant, Abdallah El Kahhal, who established Wekalet El Kahhal in the same historic area in 1871.

Abdallah El Kahhal (1840–1921):

A Syrian merchant, setting up Wekalet El Kahhal in Cairo. Ground work for future generations.

Mahmoud El Kahhal (1873–1942):

Setting up the first rugs factory in the delta city of Monofeya.

Third Generation

Mohamed El Kahhal (1911–1986):

Officially setting up El Kahhal rugs, cooperating from Khan El Khalili.

Expanding the retail locally to become the largest hand-made rugs retailers in Egypt.
